The beach at Omaha was the site of some of the fiercest fighting during the Allied landings in France towards the end of World War II. The physical signs of the battle are fading and disappearing with time, but here this commemorative sculpture in metal reminds us of the spirit and bravery of the mostly British and American soldiers who disembarked and fought here. How bitter that the ideals and freedoms for which they fought and for which so many sacrificed their lives have since been betrayed by their own governments.
